Focus week 1 - Science

Starting this year I decided to do even more work with Emily at home. Well, not just Emily, Ashley too, but mostly Emily. I have a book started already where I am planing different topics for different weeks. We will focus on 1-2 big things each week, sometimes maybe even for 2 weeks. As of right now its all going well, we did Science first week and now doing Math. But I will cover Science a little more.
Science week we split into 2 parts

  1. Matter - this one she started at school and we continued at home.
  2. Stars and planets - we did camping on our backyard and it was perfect time to get out telescope out and learn some more about planets and stars.

SCIENCE

That night we used few different things to learn about the sky - telescope, binoculars, tablet and a book. Each gave us a lot of information.

There is a great app on Android market (not sure about apple) called Google sky map. Girls loved it! There are a lot of settings you can pick, you can show just planets or everything or just constellations. App is very kids and any user friendly. Just point your tablet anywhere and it will show you where is what.

The next day they drew some pictures of the stars and planets they have seen.

Another project you can do for this topic is your own constellation made out of toothpicks and marshmallows.  I do not have any new pictures, just this two from last year

MATTER

This is something they already knew, but not in so many detail.  This topic was started at school and we just a little bit more researches at home.

Learned some new words to describe matter

Everything we did at home I found online. Every worksheet, project and online games.
This is a very fun project for kids, doesn't have to be root beer:)
